What the Dell?

I was in Sears the other day. No I didn't come into any money or anything like that, so calm down. It just happens that Sears has the best restrooms for bathing, if one needed to do so--the hand dryers are mounted low on the walls. On the way out I passed the televisions and noticed a commercial for Dell running on about half of the sets. Of course the pitch was to buy a Dell computer because they are so great. I have to admit that I didn't fall in love with their method.

It went like this: There is this college professor in a teaching theatre trying to teach a class with a bunch of students working hard on their computers--taking notes, looking at material referred to during the lecture, and so on. But wait! They are not using the machines for studying at all. One student is listening to downloaded music and BANG! There's this band rockin' out in the seats behind her. WAWA WA WA! Another student is watching a DVD and BAM! The action scene comes to life before everyone's eyes. HI-YA! To top that a third student is doing some on-line gaming and CRASH! This motor-cross race bursts into the room. RUMMMMM RMMMM RMMMM! All of this leaves the professor paralyzed, thus halting any learning whatsoever.

Buy a Dell and Education Won't Stand a Chance.

I guess only teachers would pick up on something like that seeing that we deal with MP3 players, PSP's and cell phones every class period of the day. It's a separate job in itself. On top of that it corrupts the image of college. I'm not sure about you guys, but I studied constantly throughout college. If I didn't work hard in college, I wouldn't be where I am today--folding my clothes on the changing table in the Sears bathroom.

Gym Hazards

I once wrote that I was thinking of joining one of those 24 hour gyms because it would be good living on a teacher's wages (all the hot water I want, couches big enough to sleep on in front of flat-screen televisions, etc.). Well, I ended up joining a couple weeks ago and now I understand the phrase, "Nothing in life is for free."

The social norms are not what I'm used to even though you would think that I'm not that bashful. For example, I do not think there is a need for a stranger to comment on the boxers that I'm wearing--we're not close enough. Yes, they were novelty Christmas boxers and this IS July, but beggars can't be choosers.

Of course I can see that the whole situation wasn't this guy's fault and that he was just reacting to what he saw. But, can anyone explain why he was shaving completely in the nude? Perhaps he had a second destination after his face, but I didn't hang around to find out!
